No matter how good you are doing already, it's hardly possible to be too skilled when it comes to your senses of humor. In fact, you've probably noticed that people who are funny can get away with a lot of things that most of us just can't. You also might have noticed that since of humor is one of the most important qualities which a woman looks for in a man. So let's get into some practical strategies which you can use to build an amazing sense of humor...and fast.
First, Become a Humor Consumer
Have you ever learnt a foreign language? If so, you probably already know that the best way to become fluent is to immerse yourself in the culture which speaks that language. The same is sure in relation to developing an amazing sense of humor. How many hours a week do you spend listening to comedians? I'm not talking about reading the joke books. You've probably found that funny people have the ability to say things and make people laugh, while another person might say the same thing and no one laughs.
This is because about 90% of our communication is nonverbal, and you just can't get the full effect from reading a book. A good comedian can use voice inflections, body language, timing and many other subtle forms of communication to turn a normal joke into a real side splitter. So the first thing you need to do if you want to develop a great sense of humor is to immerse yourself in some good material...starting today.
TIP: Set aside some time on your schedule to find some good standup acts on YouTube and watch them. Don't multitask as you do this. Instead, commit your full to how the comedian is creating humor using tone of voice, timing and body
Second, Write a Few of Your Own Jokes
Okay, don't get intimidated by this tip. This is not as hard as it sounds, because your jokes don't even have to be funny to anybody else but you. Why is this? Because chances are, if you find something funny, people who think like you are also going to find it funny. By writing your own jokes, you'll begin to understand your own sense of humor better and believe it or not, you'll actually start to develop your own sense of humor.
It's common for most people to look at an expert artist such as a comedian and assume that their ability to make people laugh is natural and effortless. In reality, what you are looking at is the result of many long hard hours of practice and rehearsing. Even after all this, many comedians also have to test their material before small audiences before they actually present it to large audiences. It's silly to assume that they can actually be that funny 100% of the time... it takes practice.
TIP: If you're having a hard time writing your own jokes, look up a few that you like on the Internet and practice making modifications of them. After a while, start to get the idea of how humor works. Call out the Obvious Did you know that most comedians simply call things what they really are and people laugh about it? Why is this? Because there are many ridiculous things in life which we just assumed to be normal, when in reality they are downright silly.
For a good example of this kind of humor, check out a few comedians like Mitch Hedburg and Dimitri Martin. Most of these guys routines consist of "observational humor" which is based on calling things what they are. The more that you listen to these kinds of comedians, the more you will start noticing ridiculous things in your environment and the easier it will be for you to laugh at them and to get others to laugh with you.
